Factors affecting the laser cutting metal

Factors affecting the laser cutting metal

1. The power of the laser

In fact, the cutting capacity of fiber laser cutting machine is mainly related to the power of the laser. The most common powers on the market today are 1000W, 2000W, 3000W, 4000W, 6000W, 8000W, 12000W, 20000W, 30000W, 40000W. High power machines can cut thicker or stronger metals.

2. The auxiliary gas used when cutting

Common auxiliary gases are O2, N2 and air. Generally speaking, carbon steel is cut with O2, which requires a purity of 99.5%. In the cutting process, the combustion oxidation reaction of oxygen can improve the cutting efficiency and eventually form a smooth cutting surface with an oxide layer. However, when cutting stainless steel, due to the high melting point of stainless steel, after considering the cutting quality and finish, N2 cutting is generally used, and the general purity requirement is 99.999%, which can prevent the kerf from producing oxide film during the cutting process. Make the cutting surface is white, and the formation of cutting vertical lines.

Carbon steel is generally cut with N2 or air on a high power 10,000 watt machine. Air cutting saves cost and is twice as efficient as O2 cutting when cutting a certain thickness. For example, cutting 3-4mm carbon steel, 3kw can wind cut this, 120,000kw can wind cut 12mm.

3.The impact of cutting speed on the cutting effect

Generally speaking, the slower the cutting speed set, the wider and uneven the kerf, the greater the relative thickness that can be cut. Do not always cut at the power limit, which will shorten the service life of the machine. When the cutting speed is too fast, it is easy to cause the kerf melting speed to keep up and cause hanging slag. Choosing the right speed when cutting helps to achieve good cutting results. Good material surface, the choice of lenses, etc. will also affect the cutting speed.

4. The quality of laser cutting machine

The better the quality of the machine, the better the cutting effect, you can avoid secondary processing and reduce labor costs. At the same time, the better the performance of the machine and the kinematic properties of the machine, the less likely to vibrate during the cutting process, thus ensuring good processing accuracy.
